Just a quick update to let any regular readers out there know that I’ve uninstalled a whole host of WordPress extensions from this site that weren’t really needed and cleaned up the sidebar. All this means is that page loading should be noticeably faster. Enjoy, and thanks for reading!

Weighing in at an impressively sized minimum download of 437.2MB (Much larger if you haven’t updated in a while), Apple released the latest updates for Mac OS X Snow Leopard sometime yesterday. The size of the update is more than justified, however, with the long list of fixes and tweaks it brings along with it.

Updates of note include, but are in no way limited to the following:

  • Improve the reliability and compatibility of QuickTime X
  • Address compatibility issues with OpenGL-based applications
  • Address an issue that causes background message colors to display incorrectly in Mail
  • Resolve an issue that prevented files with the # or & characters in their names from opening in Rosetta applications
  • Resolve an issue that prevented files from copying to Windows file servers
  • Improve performance of Logic Pro 9 and Main Stage 2 when running in 64-bit mode
  • Improve sleep and wake reliability when using Bonjour wake on demand
  • Address a color issue in iMovie with HD content
  • Improve printing reliability
  • Resolve issues with recurring events in iCal when connected to an Exchange server
  • Improve the reliability of 3rd party USB input devices
  • Fix glowing, stuck, or dark pixels when viewing video from the iMac (Late 2009) built-in iSight camera

Don’t have Snow Leopard yet? Pick up your copy today!

Late in the day yesterday Apple released a minor upgrade to it’s Safari web browser for both Mac and Windows versions, so for those of you who use it as your primary browser, as opposed to my preferred browser, it is time to upgrade. Although there are absolutely no real visual or even noticeable differences, the update patches a handful of security issues and even offers a few stability and performance enhancements. I won’t bore you with the details of exactly what was fixed, so if you want more info you can click on the following links for the security details or performance and stability updates.

The update is available through Software Update, or you can visit the Safari Download Page.

Mac users everywhere should click on the ‘ole Apple menu, choose ‘Software Update’ and apply the newest patch for Snow Leopard, bumping the version up to 10.6.2. The update is available for client and server versions of the OS and includes over 100 fixes, including the infamous guest account issue that deletes the main user’s home directory. Other changes of note include Spotlight searching of Exchange accounts, known issues with four-finger swipes on touchpads, and smaller fixes for font handling, printing, graphics, MobileMe, Mail, and probably tons of other stuff that hasn’t yet been fully uncovered.
