I’ve been saying this for a while now, but with election day coming up tomorrow I’ve finally gotten the motivation to actually post it. Basically, I cant seem to comprehend why national election days aren’t a national holiday where everyone is given a paid holiday day off work and given ample opportunity to get out and vote. In a country where voting is one of the most patriotic and democratic things you can do, it seems ridiculous to me that the first Tuesday in November every other year that truly defines the very core of our political system isn’t itself celebrated as a holiday. Not only would this truly honor the democratic principles that the country is found on, but it would almost certainly drastically increase voter turnout, thus electing politicians that better represent their constituents.

So, why isn’t this the case? It seems, at least to this blogger, like a reasonable and obvious decision. Yet, it is never mentioned by the politicians who would have to pass a bill approving it as a new holiday. Hopefully one of the freshmen congressman or senators who will be elected tomorrow will agree with this idea and author a bill to support it, but I’ll remain skeptical until I see it passed.

Yes, you read the title of this post correctly. Today, being William Shatner’s birthday, shall henceforth be known as “International Talk Like William Shatner Day.” Maurice LaMarche, the genius behind this new holiday, is best known for work on Futurama and Animaniacs (The Brain) and is self-declared the third best imitator of Shatner in the world. I fully support this new holiday and will celebrate it by doing my absolute best Shatner impressions throughout the day, even though they will certainly pale in comparison to those done by Mo. So, without further ado, here’s the vlog that started it all. Watch it, share it, and spread it like wildfire.
