My wife and I had the rare opportunity to go on a date last night to celebrate our 6th anniversary. My parents were kind enough to babysit for the kids, so we were able to eat somewhere that we wouldn’t normally bring a toddler and an infant. Although it took us a while to narrow down where exactly we wanted to eat, we eventually decided on Juniper 61, made reservations for two, and headed out.
Once we arrived, we were immediately seated and flipped through the menus. Although there were a few other entrees that looked great, I gravitated rapidly towards the Blackberry Baby Back Ribs with a matching Australian Grenache red wine. My wife ordered the Farfalle in Basil Cream with a riesling. Having tried hers I can vouch that it was indeed quite good, but I was thrilled with my ribs. They fell off the bone with virtually no effort and the blackberry barbecue sauce was very sweet and tart with only a hint of spice. If you aren’t already drooling, sitting below the ribs was a moderately sized pile of lightly seasoned, slightly crispy sweet potato fries. Everything was just as good as it sounds and it was perfectly paired with the aforementioned red wine.
The restaurant itself is small and cozy with both indoor and outdoor seating, so on a nice spring or summer day you can enjoy the weather and the food. Beyond what we actually ate, the selection of appetizers and side dishes is alone enough reason to head back for another meal. I will certainly be back, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a nice meal.
